Founding Headmaster

Tony Shuttleworth brings 28 years of distinguished teaching and leadership experience from Hilton College, where he served in a range of academic, pastoral, and sporting roles, including Housemaster, Director of Sport, and more recently Second Master (Senior Deputy Headmaster).

Tony studied at Stellenbosch University, earning a BSc and a postgraduate Higher Diploma in Education, and later completed his BEd Honours. He has contributed to professional dialogue in education by presenting at various conferences – most notably at the International Boys’ Schools Coalition (IBSC) international and regional gatherings – speaking primarily on leadership and the evolving demands of modern schooling.

Over nearly three decades, Tony has developed a reputation as a thoughtful, values‑driven leader who builds strong relationships and nurtures meaningful school culture. His leadership blends strategic clarity with deep pastoral insight, shaped by his experience across the academic, boarding, and sporting pillars of school life.

Tony is passionate about his Christian faith and remains actively involved in serving in the local church, where he has also held leadership roles. His family is central to his life: he is married to Alana, an engineer, and together they have three wonderful children – twins currently in their second year at Tuks University and their youngest, Joel, in Grade 9 at Hilton College.

He holds a strong belief in the inherent worth and potential of every child, viewing schools as places entrusted with the profound responsibility of uncovering these gifts and inspiring young people to grow confidently into them. Tony believes that educational excellence is grounded in timeless values and that character formation lies at the heart of truly transformative schooling.
